The readme gives both options since I cannot tell which of them applies to each individual user. The repository packages alone should have been sufficient, the "compiling from sources" paragraph is for those that do not want to or cannot use the repository.

Well, I suppose that you have two versions of codecserver on your system now. However, I do not know if that is actually true or whether there are patents still in force in some countries. I have read that the patents for D-Star may have already expired.
#Ambe codec introduction software
My question is: for those who cannot buy or do not want to buy an AMBE device, which protocols (DMR, D-Star, etc.) do we expect to return to OpenWebRX in the future, if any? In other words, is their current exclusion due to insurmountable patent issues, or is there a software solution on the roadmap for decoding any of them? I have searched the forum but I'm still not sure if codecserver, digiham, or other tools under development would eventually return any of this functionality without an AMBE device.

I appreciate the difficulties that presents for people who create and use these tools, so I understand your decision to remove the library in question. It's frustrating that the amateur radio community uses proprietary audio codecs. I see that I may have missed out on using a few digital protocols (D-Star, DMR, etc.).

I just installed it for the first time (1.1.0) and it's a delight to use. Hello Jakob, Thank you for developing and maintaining this program.
